Students at Priestnall School have been building meaningful connections with residents at Priestnall Court Care Home through a heartwarming project that combines creativity, conversation and community spirit.

As part of the school’s ‘Art From The Heart’ project, Year 8 and Year 9 Art Ambassadors visited the care home in May to spend time getting to know residents and hear their stories.

Ahead of the visit, students carefully prepared interview questions designed to encourage residents to share memories, life experiences and the people and things that matter most to them.

Inspired by these conversations, each student then created a personalised piece of artwork reflecting the story of the resident they had met.

The finished artworks were framed and presented as gifts during a special return visit on Thursday 2nd July.

The presentation proved to be an emotional occasion for both students and residents.

One resident said: “I’m overcome with emotion. I’m speechless. I’ve never in my life had anything like this. It’s wonderful!”

Another was touched to see a treasured family memory reflected in the artwork, saying: “I’m a little emotional… you remembered my mother’s favourite song!”

The project reflects Priestnall School’s Leadership & Service cornerstone, one of the Four Cornerstones that underpin life at the school. Through Art From The Heart, students used their artistic talents to make a positive difference in their local community.

Staff at Priestnall Court Care Home praised the maturity, kindness and enthusiasm shown by the students throughout the project, while students spoke about how much they enjoyed hearing residents’ stories and creating something personal that would be treasured for years to come.

Art From The Heart has been a powerful reminder of how creativity can bring people together, strengthening links between generations and creating memories that will stay with both students and residents long after the project has ended.
