On Wednesday 20th January 2026, Priestnall School welcomed representatives from McVitie’s, part of the pladis group, into school to deliver an engaging Year 9 Careers Workshop, giving students valuable insight into the world of manufacturing and packaging.
A total of 75 students took part in the interactive session, designed to broaden their understanding of the industry and highlight the wide range of career opportunities available within pladis and the McVitie’s factory in Stockport.

Exploring Careers in Manufacturing and Packaging
Students explored how modern manufacturing combines technology, innovation, teamwork, and problem‑solving. The workshop introduced them to key areas such as:
- Engineering and automation
- Product development
- Quality assurance
- Supply chain and logistics
- Packaging design and sustainability
- Marketing and brand operations
These discussions helped students see how varied and future‑focused the industry is.

Students were encouraged to think about the different skills needed across these roles, from creativity and communication to engineering and digital capabilities.
Thank you to McVitie’s and pladis for taking the time to support our careers programme and for offering students an engaging insight into the world of manufacturing and packaging!
