Students investigate Time at Priestnall Science Fair
Six students from Priestnall School are set to head to the Trust Science Fair after presenting three outstanding research projects at the Priestnall Science Fair last month.
The Laurus Trust Science Fair is an annual competition between Laurus Trust secondary schools where teams of students present projects based on a central theme.
Each school holds an internal science fair and selects three winning projects to progress to the Trust Science Fair.
Under this year’s theme of ‘Time’, 30 keen students from Priestnall School independently decided upon a time-related question that they would like to investigate.
The students spent many hours over many weeks hypothesising, researching, planning, experimenting, recording, concluding and evaluating their chosen aspect.
All this work culminated in the students displaying and presenting their work to Priestnall staff, parents and carers at the Science Fair in the Main Hall.
The projects covered a variety of interesting topics, including:
- How the Earth has developed over time
- Evolution over time
- How well plants grow over time
- The development of Brine shrimp and cress over time
- How time has changed horses
- How long does a star last for?
- How long do chemical reactions last for?
- How do crystals develop over time?
- How does the colour of a tadpole’s tank affect a tadpole’s development?
- How long does it take for a rocket to ascend and parachutes to descend?
- How do different burgers decay?
- How quickly do different breads decay?
The atmosphere at the fair was fizzing with the verve of Priestnall students sharing their findings.
They displayed an impressive depth of knowledge and provided incredibly interesting and illuminating presentations of their work.
The high calibre of all the budding scientists and their work meant that whoever progressed to the Trust Fair would represent the school to the highest standard!

- Brine shrimps and cress – Benjamin and Charlie
- The Burger Biochemistry Collective – Alexander and Anish
- Colouring Tadpoles over Time – Jack and Jensen
